Stone Farm Cottage
The Stone Farm Cottage presented an utterly unique challenge, as it seamlessly combined a traditional cob/stone farmhouse with a well-designed two-story extension that ingeniously incorporated an original stone outbuilding on the ground floor.
Our main focus was to address various issues that had plagued the cottage, including inadequate thermal efficiency resulting from a poorly executed barn conversion in the 1990s, an impractical layout, and a lack of integration between the old and new sections of the house.
Additionally, we aimed to elevate the overall aesthetics of the cottage and establish a stronger connection between the interior spaces and the awe-inspiring panoramic views outside.
Despite facing logistical hurdles like limited parking and weight restrictions on the narrow lane, we successfully breathed life into our client’s vision.
Our dedicated team worked tirelessly to preserve the timeless charm of the cottage while infusing it with a contemporary flair, resulting in a seamless blend of classic character and modern design.
Cottles Quay
Located in the prestigious Salcombe, South Devon, sits the enchanting Cottles Quay, once a delightful garden nursery. Within its grounds, a weathered boat shed stood, providing practical storage space.
A remarkable opportunity presented itself to our skilled team, as we were entrusted with the task of transforming these buildings into a truly exquisite two-story, two-bedroom house. Furthermore, we were commissioned to create a remarkable amphibious annexe, featuring two luxurious bedrooms.
The ingenious design for this ambitious project was carefully crafted by the esteemed BACA Architects, who travelled all the way from London to lend their expertise.
Collaborating with them were the highly regarded Techniker, known for their exceptional work on the renowned TV show, Grand Designs, where they displayed their impressive engineering skills. Given the unique challenges posed by the site’s location, we had to devise innovative techniques and utilise specialised equipment to meticulously dismantle the existing structure and manage the resulting debris.
Our commitment to precision and meticulous attention to detail was unwavering throughout the entire endeavour.
The Oaks
The Oaks was initially presented as an unfinished, standalone dwelling, gracefully positioned on a steeply inclined plot facing the northern direction. It found solace next to the esteemed Duryard Estate and nestled alongside the renowned university.
However, throughout a decade, the project underwent a gradual transformation, with no element being fully realised and no adherence to conventional construction practices. The proprietor, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and cost-efficiency, passionately expressed a desire to preserve the two-story framework.
After careful evaluation, the endorsed proposal was deemed excessively intricate, covering a large area of 407 m2, and financially burdensome to implement. As a result, we approached the endeavour with a fresh perspective, embracing a more modest and environmentally friendly approach.
Our objective was to cautiously utilise the existing structural framework while preserving as much of the original infrastructure as practically possible.
